DTM

The "Deutsche Tourenwagen-Masters" is a racing series founded in 2000 for GT3 competition cars derived from a production model. It is considered the successor to the German Touring Car Championship, which was discontinued at the end of 1996. It is a racing series in which mainly factory teams fight for the title. It is run by the organization ITR (International Touring Car Racing) under the direction of Gerhard Berger - former automobile racing driver and BMW motorsport director. The term Masters was chosen in 2000 partly because too many rounds were scheduled abroad for a German championship.
